Cork City Libraries relaunches popular materials from Cork Past and Present in pilot use of Quartex

Tuesday, 23 August 2022

Cork City Libraries has relaunched five of the most popular collections from its Cork Past and Present website in a pilot use case of Quartex, the digital collections platform from award-winning primary source publisher, Adam Matthew Digital.

The five collections include Genealogy, Maps, Images, Street Directories and Texts, the last of which includes Crofton Croker Correspondence and Ye Mayoral Booke of Thomas Pembrock 1773.

"As Cork City Libraries continues with the redesign of the Cork Past and Present website, we are excited to re-release this collection of Local Studies material, representing the most popular items sought by our users and which provides information on Cork's history, culture, places, people, and events."

David O'Brien, Cork City Librarian

Having initially trialled Quartex in 2021, Cork City Libraries chose the platform for its ease-of-use, capacity to scale as collections and needs grow, and for its broad range of discoverability features such as related assets, list landing pages and customisable controlled vocabularies.

Quartex’s site design and build service was another important factor impacting the choice.

"As publishers of digitised primary source content, our team has decades of experience designing and building digital collections sites that promote exceptional research experiences. We were delighted to work with Cork City Libraries to present these Cork Past and Present collections in Quartex and, even more so, that we were able to mobilise quickly to build and publish the new interface in little more than a month."

Martin Drewe, Head of Customer Experience, Quartex

The five initial collections have been designed to offer a better user experience, on a more updated platform, with all items now available to search and browse.

"Throughout the pilot, we will continue to build on the collections with a focus on refining and enriching both the collections and the user experience."

David O'Brien, Cork City Librarian
